Cilvaringz, Wu-Tang Europe’s current MVP, drops a new album (his first “Official” in 6+ years) in a similar vein to Bronze Nazareth’s recent “Great Migration”

I is not breaking new ground in terms of production techniques. If you want weird noises and 16/7 time signatures, this is not for you. Strictly boom-bap sword raps. And you know what?

Apart from some holdovers born on his “Killa B Ching” album, all of this is new, and some of it is damn fresh. “Weeping Tiger” is Forever-era bangsauce at it’s grimiest, while Killarmy come ill on “Blazing Saddles”. Going deeper, tracks like “Jewelz” and “Shaharezad, My Beloved” made me double take to remember I wasn;t listening to Bronze, and I mean that in the best way.

While the album is DOPE, it’s not perfect. As much as we all love vintage sword raps, tracks about rapping and being ill and WU get tiring on the fifth go ’round. I understand this is a concious attempt to revive the style and energy we all grew addicated ot in the mid 90’s, but times move on. I know you can swing a verbal sword, y’all motherfuckers spent 10 years telling us that.
